1 hurt in shooting on I-80 in Fairfield

A man traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 in Fairfield was shot and wounded Saturday, in what the California Highway Patrol believes may have been a road rage incident.

The auto knocked the pole to the ground, plunged down a dirt embankment and struck a large pine tree, according to the CHP.

A gray SUV driving east from Travis Boulevard fired into a white Toyota Camry around 8:45 a.m., according to David Harvey, public information officer for the CHP. Investigators are looking for two suspects in a grey SUV of unknown make or year.

The injured trooper was Tycee M. Williams, 40, of Weldon Spring; he was taken to Mercy Hospital St. Louis with minor injuries, according to the report.

The eastbound lanes of I-480 were closed for about two hours as officials tended to the crash scene. No further details were immediately available.
