Andrews, Mayfield and Brown finalists for top national awards

A pair of Penn State players have been named finalists for national awards.

The victor of the Mackey Award will be announced December 6 and presented December 7 during the Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show.

Penn State's Mike Gesicki is a finalist for the Mackey Award, which is presented to the country's top tight end.

The junior running back has been a star since his arrival in Happy Valley and will be a coveted commodity if he decides to declare for the 2018 NFL Draft. With Mayfield's recognition, the redshirt senior becomes the first player to be named a three-time finalist for the award. Barkley posted his 14 career 100-yard rushing game and his fourth career three-touchdown performance. He has been one of senior quarterback Baker Mayfield's favorite targets, leading the team in number of receptions and coming in second to sophomore wide receiver Marquise Brown in total receiving yards this year. He has 590 receiving yards with three touchdowns and has returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

The Whitehall High School graduate is the first Penn State player to be a finalist for the Maxwell and Walker awards since Larry Johnson in 2002.

Gesicki has shaken off a slow start to his collegiate career and has transformed into a risky weapon for the Nittany Lions.

Mayfield and Rudolph were named finalists for the Davey O'Brien Quarterback Award.

The O'Brien, Outland, Guy, and Biletnikoff award winners will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 7th.
