Android 8.0 Oreo sees a measly gain in November distribution numbers

Android 8.0 Oreo sees a measly gain in November distribution numbers

It also brings new features such as picture-in-picture, which allows users to do two tasks simultaneously, like checking the calendar while planning a party on a Duo video call.

The analysis, by hardware engineer Dan Luu, uses data from Google's developer dashboard to look at the figures for outdated Android devices between 2010 and today.

The numbers for November have gone live this morning, and just as we expected, Android 8.0 Oreo adoption continues to soar! This chart is an indication of what version of Android is running on how many devices in the market in terms of percentage.

At this point, the slow growth in distribution numbers for the latest version of Android is nothing new - the fact is, it's always been like this.

Which version of Android do you have on your smartphone?

That estimate roughly matches Google's most recent Android distribution figures, which were updated a few days ago for the week ending on November 9. Both combine for a total of 20.6 percent compared to last month's 17.8 percent. One reason is people reportedly holding on to their existing devices for longer.

Google's latest Android OS 8.0 Oreo is now running on 0.3 per cent devices, up from 0.2 per cent in October.

Here's how it works: In Android 8.1, applications marked "inactive" aren't run through dexopt, the Android tool that optimizes.dex files to produce an.odex file. And device manufacturers need to meet several requirements to enable Treble.
