Android's founder Andy Rubin left Google after investigation

According to a report out of The Information, Andy Rubin has taken a leave of absence from his smartphone company, Essential. So, simplifying the information that's out there thus far - Mr. Rubin had an alleged relationship with an employee at Google, breaking company policy, which may or may not have been a catalyst in his leaving the company.

The leave comes after the release of a story by The Information, detailing the circumstances of his departure from Google in 2014. Google's investigation reportedly only says that Rubin should not have had a consensual relationship with a subordinate. The woman worked in the Android division at the time, which was headed by Rubin.

Asked if Rubin's new leave of absence was a result of these new reports coming to light, the Essential spokesperson would not offer any additional comment.

In a rather surprising turn of events, Andy Rubin takes a leave of absence from Essential Products.

The company requires employees to disclose such relationships so that one of them can be moved to another division. He went on to develop Android, which was acquired by Google in 2005.

Michael Sitrick, a spokesman for Rubin, said, "Any relationship that Rubin had while at Google was consensual and did not involve any person who reported to him".

The website also said that its sources, who wished to remain anonymous, indicated that the "internal investigation concluded that Mr Rubin's behavior was improper and showed bad judgement".

At the time Rubin left Google, he was leading the company's robotics division, which at the time had just been formed. The woman allegedly filed a complaint against Rubin to Google's HR department, which led to the probe.

When Rubin left Google, he made no mention of an investigation or allegations of an inappropriate relationship. It's not because the Essential Phone isn't doing well but because of personal reasons.

Essential was founded in November 2015 by Rubin.
