AP CM Chandrababu Naidu asks Bill Gates to support agriculture sector

"I am appealing to Bill Gates to help AP government in terms of technology support in agriculture sector, nutrition for everyone and health sector".

During his brief visit to the coastal city, Gates addressed the valedictory of the three-day AP AgTech Summit 2017. "It is efficient, profitable and meets the needs of producers and consumers", Bill Gates explained.

He said millions of small holding farmers were malnourished and impoverished and small holding women farmers were often trapped in subsistence farming.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of recent MHA order to cancel the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licence of Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), a health advocacy group, majorly funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF). "Third, we can produce nutritious food to spurt a healthy and well-educated labour force to the future when the Indian economy will depend even more on high-skilled workers", he said. "We need to increase the productivity of small farmers and provide them linkages to markets", he said calling for transfer of technology from labs to land. "In cash economy, borrowing is expensive".

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said the state was topping various business and development-related indices in the country. "The state is improving roads connectivity, micro irrigation and digital soil mapping transforming agri-sector and setting model for others", he said.
