Arsenal injury blow? Olivier Giroud withdraws from France squad with thigh strain

Arsenal injury blow? Olivier Giroud withdraws from France squad with thigh strain

Given his limited role under Arsene Wenger this term - Giroud is yet to start a Premier League fixture - the striker looks set to emerge as the subject of more speculation come the January transfer window.

France will visit Germany in Cologne on Tuesday.

"I am not questioning myself about my future", said Giroud, as quoted by The Telegraph. He trusts in me and I try to give it back on the pitch when I can. I am happy at Arsenal and I am fine with the decision to stay'.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has revealed that he has no regrets after deciding to stay at the Emirates last summer and playing second fiddle to Alexandre Lacazette.

The France global has stated that he is happy at Arsenal despite not being guaranteed a place in the starting lineup.

The Gunners striker started for France in Friday night's 2-0 friendly win over Wales and scored his 29th goal in 69 caps for his country.

Giroud added: "I'm sure he (Wenger) was watching nearly all the games especially because Aaron was playing too".

The 31-year-old was close to moving to Everton during the summer but chose to fight for his place because "the story was not finished". I keep believing in my quality and I keep the faith. "I'm very grateful. I'm very proud and I always try to bring something to the national team". That's most important for me.

Alexis Sanchez's likely departure next year should indirectly provide further first-team opportunities and Wenger very much wants Giroud to stay, even despite his general preference this season in the league for Lacazette.
