Bahrain sees Iran's hand in oil pipe blast

Bahrain sees Iran's hand in oil pipe blast

Bahrain on Saturday blamed a "terrorist act" for an oil pipeline fire near the capital Manama, later brought under control by emergency services.

The bombing of the oil pipeline would only increase the determination of Bahrain to confront whoever wanted to undermine its security and stability, he said.

Bahrain, a Shi'ite-majority kingdom ruled by a Sunni dynasty, faces occasional attacks from local Shi'ite militant groups as it continues a crackdown on all dissent, imprisoning or forcing opponents into exile.

"It is an act of sabotage, a serious terrorist act aimed at harming the interests of the nation and endangering the population", the interior ministry said on Twitter.

Bahraini authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

"The terrorist acts that Bahrain has witnessed recently are conducted through communications and direct instructions from Iran", he claimed. "The safety and security of our citizens and residents are a top priority, and the interior ministry will spare no effort to maintain security and protect the public".

State-run Bahrain Petroleum Company, or Bapco, closed the flow of oil to the stricken pipeline, the civil defense added in the statement, published on the interior ministry's website, Reuters reported.

Bapco said the incident was an isolated one.

The explosion and fire hit near the village of Buri late on November 10, damaging nearby buildings.

It also expressed its confidence that these acts will not distract the government of Bahrain and its people from pursuing development and standing against desperate attempts of destruction and violence.
