Bangladesh youths beat India to top group

India were knocked out of the U-19 Asia Cup after suffering their second straight defeat in three days. After being thrashed by Nepal on Sunday, India were once again seen at the receiving end in a do-or-die clash and surrendered meekly against Bangladesh to crash out of the quadrennial event.

They will now will play the first semifinal against Group B runners up Pakistan on Thursday while Group B champions Afghanistan will face Nepal in the other semifinal on Friday. Bangladesh, who elected to field, dealt regular blows, reducing India to 85 for 4 at the halfway mark.

India were without their star players Prithvi Shaw and Shubham Gill. No Indian batsmen reached a fifty as Salman Khan top-scored with an unbeaten 39. Number seven batsman Salman Khan contributed unconquered 39 runs off 38 balls, hitting two fours, in the rain-hit match while Anuj Rawat added 34 and Harvik Desai 21.

Bangladesh's opening pair of Pinak Ghosh and Mohammad Naim Sheikh provided a solid 82-run partnership to dent India's hopes.

Ghosh then teamed up with Mohammad Tawhid Hridoy (48 not out) to accelerate towards victory with an unbroken 83-run stand for the fourth wicket.
