Bellew vs Haye 2 postponed due to David Haye arm injury

David Haye has been forced to withdraw from his rematch with bitter rival Tony Bellew through injury.

Haye has since undergone a minor operation, but the former two-weight world champion has claimed that the fight will be able to take place, either in March or May.

Haye said in a statement: "Despite the recent injury rumours, I was in flawless condition with an incredibly strong training camp, now weighing lighter than I have for more than five years, I couldn't wait to get back in the ring".

Let's not let the boxing fans down @EddieHearn I will fight Bellew @TonyBellew in December and beat him up even without a proper training camp @SkySportsBoxing. He fought on despite rupturing his Achilles during the dramatic defeat by Bellew in March, his third fight - and first against a reputable opponent - since returning to the ring after a near four-year absence in January 2016. I'll be ready and waiting. But this could only go on for so long and Bellew eventually finished the fight in the 11th, knocking Haye through the ropes and forcing trainer Shane McGuigan to throw in the towel. Bellew was ahead 96-93 on all three scorecards at the time of the stoppage.

It would be impossible for Fury to step up and fight on December 17 due to the fact that he is nowhere near fighting shape at the moment, as well as the little issue that is his lack of licence.

The Fury fight had been scheduled after Haye's withdrawal, owing to a hand injury, from an earlier match-up with Manuel Charr, and four years after a back injury led to the cancellation of a fight with Wladimir Klitschko in the summer of 2009.

However Haye has firmly stated he WILL be back inside the ring to face the former WBC cruiserweight champion.

"I would like to apologise to Tony, and everyone at Team Bellew, as well as all our fans who have been left disappointed". In doing so I somehow managed to damage my biceps.

Hearn announced that the card has been postponed and that ticketholders should visit their point of purchase for a refund or exchange for any new date for the fight.
