'Big Little Lies' Season 2 is Happening; Starting Production in 2018

'Big Little Lies' Season 2 is Happening; Starting Production in 2018

HBO has not confirmed that a season two is indeed in the works to the media, however, TVLine reported that the team behind the wildly successful show are eyeing a 2018 production schedule.

Recently, the writer of series David E. Kelley strongly intimated that a second season was nearing the scheduling stage. "It's just a lot of logistical things". We feel we still have storytelling to do. Everybody's game for getting the band back together, but we want to make sure that we've got the music to justify it.

All three played a big part in the series' 16 Emmy nominations and eight wins, including Outstanding Limited Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for Kidman. Production would have overlapped with a potential season two, so Witherspoon stuck with the HBO drama.

Valle's non-involvement in a possible Season 2 shouldn't come as a surprise because the director previously opposed the idea of a sequel.

"No, no, this is flawless ending". That was meant to be a one-time deal, and it's finishing in a way where it's for the audience to imagine what can happen. Case in point: A second season of Big Little Lies is poised to become a reality (much) sooner than later.

After all, when Witherspoon proclaimed her optimism back in August, she also resolutely stated that the issue was "totally" up to the author of the book the series is based on, Liane Moriarty. I thought Big Little Lies was one of the best things on TV this year, with tremendous performances and a really fascinating visual approach that made the stories all the more visceral.

The series stars Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skasgard and Laura Dern in pivotal roles.
