Black Stars were tactically apt to have lost to Egypt- Kwesi Appiah

"Tests have revealed that Ghana's captain Asamoah Gyan won't play in Sunday's World Cup qualifier against Egypt. Team doctor says scans show Gyan suffered a thigh strain following his injury in the Black Stars training two days ago", the GFA posted on Twitter.

Egypt have already secured World Cup qualification after overcoming Congo 2-1 in the penultimate round, reaching the quadrennial competition for the first time since 1990.

Winger Mahmoud Shikabala shined on his return to Egypt's fold after a three-year absence, scoring the opener for the Pharaohs after 60 minutes.

The 26-year old says it was an unbelievable feeling to have scored his first goal for the Black Stars.

Following a blunder by Elneny in midfield, striker Dwamena was allowed to go through on goal but keeper Ekramy rushed out of goal to deny the Ghana forward.

Egypt had a chance in the first half but could not make the most of it.

The tables were turned over in the second half, as Egypt's pragmatic system almost collapsed and the Black stars began their reign over the pitch.

Shikabala received a squared ball from Trezeguet from the left before unleashing a stunning strike past the Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori.

Ghana, on the other hand, had a total possession of 65% but the numbers sometimes may lie, as the Black Stars showed no character in processing their possession into threats.

However, their advantage was shortlived, as Netherlands-born Gyasi - one of several new faces introduced to the national side during Kwesi Appiah's second tenure - equalised three minutes later.

Kwesi Appiah's charges were denied the victor in added time by goalkeeper Ekramy.

In the group's other fixture, Uganda were held 1-1 in Brazzaville to end their encouraging qualifying campaign in low-key fashion.
