Dem Rep. John Conyers Reportedly Sexually Harassed His Female Staff

In 2015, he settled a wrongful dismissal complaint with a former employee who claimed she was sacked because "she would not succumb to [his] sexual advances".

Now Buzzfeed has reported that Democratic Rep. John Conyers of MI settled a complaint of wrongful termination from a women who claims she was sacked for turning down his alleged sexual advances. Documents related to the case seen by BuzzFeed include affidavits from staff members describing how Conyers would repeatedly make advances on female staffers.

The unnamed woman filed her first complaint in 2014 and eventually signed a confidentiality agreement that included a settlement of $27,111.75.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Monday she was unaware of the settlement by Conyers. A spokeswoman for the congressman did not respond to requests for comment late Monday.

Buzzfeed verified court documents supplied by Mike Cernovich, best known for popularizing the Pizzagate conspiracy theory.

An unsigned draft of the agreement between the woman and Conyers' office obtained by BuzzFeed denies her allegations.

Conyers was accused of telling the former employee to touch his genitals, insisting she stay in his hotel room while they were traveling, and suggesting she would be promoted or compensated for performing sexual favors, according to the report.

The staffer said she told Conyers she wasn't interested in a sexual relationship, and he withdrew his hand, according to her affidavit.

The staffer said she heard from Conyers' constituents that it was well-known Conyers had sexual relations with staffers, and said felt this made it "very awkward" when he rubbed their backs or put his arms around them at events, which they felt "undermined their credibility".

A stunning new BuzzFeed account throws Michigan Democratic Congressman John Conyers onto the growing roster of beloved public figures suddenly faced with accusations of sexually inappropriate behavior toward women.

Two staffers allege that Conyers, who now serves as the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee and is one of the longest-serving Democrats in Congress, "used congressional resources to fly in women they believed he was having affairs with".
