DEVELOPING: USC Upstate on lockdown after shooting near campus

Police are searching for a suspect after one person was shot near USC Upstate on Tuesday.

According to the university, a shooting suspect is on foot near campus carrying an automatic weapon.

USC Upstate suspect is black male wearing khaki trousers and grey hoodie carrying an automatic weapon.

"We are not sure where he is and that's why there's a campus lockdown", the officer said. Deputies responded to reports of a shooting at 12:20 p.m.

The campus was earlier put on lockdown, but the University has now reported that the lockdown has been lifted.

Witnesses described hearing five shots fired at the Campus Edge Apartments.

Whaley said the victim is not a student and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Bobo emphatically said it it "NOT on their campus, which means it is under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff's Office".

Bobo said the person who was shot "isn't cooperating with our investigators".

Bobo said the man initially said he was meeting someone at the apartment complex, and when he asked a man for directions, the man pulled out a weapon and started firing.
