Ellen Page To Star In Netflix's 'The Umbrella Academy' Television Series

The Umbrella Academy is now set for a 2018 premiere. She's the only one of her adopted siblings with no superpowers. Working together, they try to solve the mystery of their father's death, but their different abilities and personalities are a constant source of friction.

Steve Blackman (FX's Fargo) will serve as The Umbrella Academy's showrunner, with Jeremy Slater (Fox's The Exorcist) penning the pilot script. Variety first announced an Umbrella Academy adaptation several months ago. Vanya is a wallflower who has a hard time understanding her place in the family since everyone has abilities that she lacks. The 10-episode series now does not have a release date but is expected to launch sometime in 2018.

According to Deadline, Ellen Page has been tapped to play the lead in The Umbrella Academy, a new series about a dysfunctional family of superheroes based on the the popular graphic novels by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance. Now, the first actress to enroll in the academy is a graduate of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

The visual spectacle of the Umbrella Academy as a unit - including a character with a gorilla body, no less - already provides a certain grotesque intrigue to the show. Best known for Juno, Page recently starred in the reboot of Flatliners, but she also co-starred in Inception and played Kitty Pryde in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Way will serve as co-executive producer.
