England receive Ashes boost as Jake Ball's ankle injury heals quickly

Jonny Bairstow of England wears a Poppy for Remembrance Day during day four of the four day tour match between the Cricket Australia XI and England at Adelaide Oval on November 11, 2017 in Adelaide, Australia. Whether we pick him or not, we have got to make that decision once we get closer.

The 23-year-old looks nearly certain to play in the first Ashes Test at the Gabba given Jake Ball, his rival for the fourth seamer's position in the team, is now nursing an ankle injury that looks likely to see him miss the Townsville match.

England's captain Heather Knight held firm as the visitors scrounged a draw from the inaugural day-night women's Test, leaving the Ashes in the balance ahead of the Twenty20 leg of the series. "He should be right in that 7-10 day time frame, he's fairly confident".

"It's been a concern for us for a little while", said the Australian. "We have games like that, where we lose wickets like that, and it is a concern", said Bayliss as media reports suggest. We are slowly getting there. "We will certainly have to do that during the Test series".

Australia XI in Adelaide for 22 runs and then lost seven for 45 during a second innings in which they were bowled out for 207. "He is consistent with that length, which you need at the top level".

Bayliss also played down doubts over former skipper Alistair Cook s form, saying he had looked better each time he had batted on tour.

With the Ashes scheduled to begin on November 23, the 54-year-old urged the England batsmen to tune up their form in the final warm-up match which starts in Townsville on Wednesday.
