E-commerce platform Flipkart has just stepped into the smartphone business with the Billion Capture+ smartphone.

Speaking on the launch of its first smartphone, Sachin Bansal, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Flipkart said, "The features in the Capture+ have been derived from deep data-mining of millions of Flipkart customers' reviews". On paper, the camera offerings are better than the RN4.

The launch of the new smartphone brand raises the prospect of a possible cannibalization of sales that Flipkart gets from its top smartphone brands, although Bansal dismissed the possibility of that happening.

On the hardware front, the smartphone looks quite sturdy and well-built. As the name suggests, it happens to be a camera-centric smartphone with dual cameras on its rear panel.

E-commerce titan, Flipkart is all ready to compete with the largest mobile makers in the nation with its own smartphone. The phone feels good to hold and is not slippery as well. The screen is placed under a protective layer of 2.5D Dragontrail glass. The device has two 13MP sensors at its rear accompanied with dual LED flash. The camera boasts of features like "Bokeh effect" and "Super night mode".

The phone sports dual cameras at the back. Selfie-addicts will have to settle for an 8 MP shooter.

The device does look like it has the necessary specifications, but it entering a crowded arena. Flipkart's Billion Capture Plus specifications have now been confirmed by the company and price for this will be Rs 10,999 for the 3GB RAM version, while the 4GB RAM variant will cost Rs 12,999. There are two variants of the device. The phone is available in two configurations: 3GB of RAM + 32GB of storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. The combination of a fast processor and higher RAM ensures that the performance is seamless and offers no lags. Both the variants support expandable storage up to 128GB using a microSD card. It runs the Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system out of the box. Most smartphones in this price range have custom ROM built on top, which are plagued with bloatware. The device ships with stock Android, which is attractive because of optimised performance and timely updates.

On the battery front, the smartphone by Flipkart is backed by a 3500mAh battery, which is rated to deliver up to 2 days of life. Not only does it have the brute force to carry you through all sorts of demanding tasks, but since it's based on 16nm process, it's extremely power efficient and light on the battery. It also claims that 15 minutes of charging results in 7 hours of battery life. Considering that the dual camera smartphones are now on the verge of becoming a staple in the Indian handset market, the Capture+ comes as a promising debut from the new brand. It has all the right elements to emerge as a victor in this price range.
