FM Arun Jaitley refutes Sonia Gandhi's charge in Parliament session

The Congress leaders hit out at the government a day after their President Sonia Gandhi accused Modi of delaying the winter session on "flimsy grounds". "The Prime Minister had the audacity to have a midnight celebration in Parliament to launch an ill-prepared and flawed GST but today he lacks the courage to face Parliament", she said.

"This year too, owing to Gujarat elections, the winter session will be rescheduled as many parliamentary members from various parties will be in the state for campaigning".

Her comments drew sharp reactions from Jaitley, who rebutted her charges, saying the "winter session will definitely take place and the government will announce dates soon".

"Usually, care is taken not to overlap Parliament session with assembly elections". "If they convene Parliament session and hold discussion, then they will be exposed. We want to ask Congress that for how long does Rahul Gandhi even attend the session", Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said. But this time, in wake of the Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat assembly elections, the session was postponed.

Mr Jaitley said that the government has nothing to hide, and added, "The Congress has given the most corrupt government in its 10 years of rule, while Narendra Modi has given the most honest government. Yet the PM continues with greater vigour to make announcements, false promises, and to quote facts and figures that have nothing to do with the reality on the ground", she said. Gandhi on Monday said the government in its "arrogance" has "cast a dark shadow on the country's parliamentary democracy".

The Congress has been accusing the government of sabotaging the winter session of Parliament. "For (the sake of) democracy, we should run Parliament", he said.

Pulling down on Congress president Sonia Gandhi, BJP general secretary Bhupender Yadav informed that it was not for the first time that the session was delayed, but this has happened under various Prime Ministers including those from the Congress. There are speculations that a truncated session will start from December 11.

Boasting about the principle of Modi government of zero tolerance to corruption Bhupendra Yadav said that "It is the NDA government under prime minister Modi that India's defense apparatus is undergoing a complete transformation with zero tolerance to corruption".
