Garrison Keillor fired over claims of inappropriate behavior

Garrison Keillor fired over claims of inappropriate behavior

That includes a name change for "A Prairie Home Companion", which is hosted now by Keillor's successor, Chris Thile.

MPR said in a statement that the organization had terminated its contract with Keillor, and had retained a law firm to conduct an independent investigation into the claims, which allegedly occurred while he was helming A Prairie Home Companion.

MPR says in its statement that the station, and its owner American Public Media, will no longer distribute Writer's Almanac and will stop rebroadcasting The Best Of A Prairie Home Companion.

Considering Keillor's huge popularity among public radio diehards, this dramatic break suggests that the allegations against Keillor are severe. Keillor wrote. "Eleven years later, a talk show host in LA, she goes public, and there is talk of resignation". Keillor went on a 28-city bus tour this summer, vowing it would be his last tour, but he continues on the road with solo shows.

"MPR takes these allegations seriously and we are committed to maintaining a safe, respectful and supportive work environment for all employees and everyone associated with MPR", the statement said.

Garrison Keillor, the creator and former host of A Prairie Home Companion, has been accused of inappropriate behavior with someone who worked with him, according to Minnesota Public Radio, which has announced it is cutting ties with Keillor and his production company.

Keillor told The Associated Press of his firing in an email.

Minnesota Public Radio confirmed Keillor had been fired, saying it received a single allegation against Keillor about "inappropriate behavior" and didn't know of any other allegations. The attorney leading the independent investigation has been conducting interviews and reviewing documents, and the investigation is still ongoing ...

MPR said it will end its business relationships with Mr. Keillor's media companies effective immediately. But it won't be on Minnesota Public Radio. "Garrison Keillor has been an important part of the growth and success of MPR, and all of us in the MPR community are saddened by these circumstances", said Jon McTaggart, President of MPR.

Keillor, 75, created the folksy variety program in 1974 and hosted it for decades until he retired a year ago.

Keillor told the Associated Press that he was sacked over an op-ed story he wrote for the Washington Post, which poked fun at Minnesota Sen.
