Hate the iPhone X's notch? There's an app for that

Apple constructed one of the most lovely smartphones ever made in the iPhone X, but there is one glaring gap in its design, literally.

Those who forked out big dollars and were hoping for a perfectly rectangular display made it no secret they were frustrated by the "ugly" black bar at the top of the phone, which houses all the technology behind the advanced front-screen camera and facial recognition ID.

Hate the notch at the top of your iPhone X? Notch Remover also costs $0.99 to install, while Notcho is technically free, requiring however a one-time $1.99 fee to remove watermarks for custom notch-concealing wallpapers.

While it obviously doesn't remove the bar, it modifies your wallpaper to make it less noticeable. It won't change the way that apps function or the way that videos look on your iPhone X, but if you're desperate to see less of the notch, it's probably your best option at the moment.

After its release a bit over a week ago, Apple's iPhone X has already run into a couple of unexpected issues with some units being afflicted by a thin green line on the side of the display as well as impacts to touchscreen reliability when moving into sudden colder temperatures.

Despite Apple saying developers should not "hide the device's rounded corners, sensor housing, or indicator for accessing the Home screen by placing black bars at the top and bottom of the screen", the app has been approved.

This comes as a surprise given that the company has been urging iOS developers not to mask the notch and instead embrace it as a key display feature.
