Microsoft founder and billionaire Bill Gates is now in India and on Friday met with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow, a day after he met with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

The state government would intensify the JE and AES immunisation programme with the help of the Bill and Milinda Gates Foundation and an MoU will be signed for the goal soon, Adityanath said in an statement.

Mr. Adityanath apprised Mr. Gates of the efforts taken by the State to tackle Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome and other vector-borne diseases.

Under the proposed MoU, the devising of programmes and their management for the next five years would be done jointly by the government and the Gates Foundation.

He also informed the Microsoft founder that the UP government recently organised successful vaccination program to counter vector-borne diseases in the state in which over 92 lakh children were vaccinated. The Uttar Pradesh government is seeking the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in "technical, managerial and programme designs", a government spokesperson said.

"Eliminating the menace of JE/AES one of the top priorities of UP Govt, Gorakhpur's BRD medical college has been on the forefront of this mission", said the CM.
