Morocco and Tunisia qualify for World Cup

Morocco stunned Ivory Coast 2-0 to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, while Tunisia also booked their ticket to Russian Federation on Saturday.

After guiding Egypt to the quadrennial event with his brace against Congo in October, Salah is delighted to see four nations from the Arab League grace next year's tournament in Russian Federation.

West Africa has dominated Africa's contingent at the World Cup in recent years but some of its big names missed out this time: Cote d'Ivoire, Cameroon and Ghana, all African champions multiple times, won't be in Russian Federation.

Marc Wilmots' Ivory Coast needed a win at home to qualify for their fourth consecutive World Cup, but two errors by goalkeeper Sylvain Gbohouo put chances of victory out of reach in the first half.

African champions Cameroon also secured a 2-2 draw away to Zambia in their inconsequential final Group B World Cup qualifier in Ndola thanks to a late goal from defender Yaya Banana.

Tunisia last played at the World Cup in 2006.

They were nervy from the off in Saturday's decisive clash, where they knew that only a win against former coach Herve Renard - the man who masterminded their AFCON success in 2015 - would be enough to pip the Atlas Lions into top spot.

Morocco completed the campaign without conceding a goal, finishing on 12 points, four ahead of the Ivorians.

Tunisia survived some nervous moments in Rades as Libya finished strongly. Benatia scored with a first-time shot from a corner five minutes later to seal the victory. The Tunisians held on for the draw, though, and it turned out to be a precious point. Before today's matches, Tunisia had 13 points while DR Congo had 10 points.
