'Murder on the Orient Express' Sequel in the Works

20th Century Fox seems happy with the reaction to and performance of Kenneth Branagh's film ofMurder On The Orient Express.

The adventures of Hercule Poirot will continue with an on-screen adaptation of Death on the Nile, according to THR.

Christie spins her plot from a few simple ingredients: one snowbound train, one murder, 13 suspects. The... In this tale, Hercule Poirot is on vacation in Cairo when he is tasked with solving the murder of a socialite named Linnet Doyle, who was caught up in a deadly love triangle between her husband, Simon Doyle, and Simon's former lover, Jacqueline de Bellefort. Much like Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile features men and women of high status, luxurious lifestyles, and trappings of high society, making the crime at the center of the story all the more scandalous in comparison.

Christie first published "Death on the Nile" in 1937, three years after her "Murder on the Orient Express" was published.

Oscar nominee Kenneth Branagh is also expected to return as director and to reprise his role as Poirot. Murder on the Orient Express is a flawlessly constructed mystery with an appealing solution that teeters on just the right side of the preposterous.

The work, like Murder On The Orient Express, has previously been adapted into a film - a 1978 effort that saw Peter Ustinov as Poirot, backed by an all-star cast including Bette Davis, Mia Farrow, Maggie Smith, Angela Lansbury and David Niven. Steve Asbell will oversee the project for Fox.
