Nashville Will Sing Its Last Song in Season 6

CMT confirmed the upcoming sixth season of Nashville will be the series' final season.

The show was originally on ABC for a number of years before moving over to the country music network, but alas, it's time to hang up our boots and say goodbye to the show. The series earned acclaim for featuring the genre while supplying entertaining storylines. The decision to cancel appears to be more of a creative decision than one based on ratings.

Looks like a fan favorite is coming to an end. Most importantly, we owe a special debt of thanks to the Nashville fans who propelled the series to an incredible run. The sneak peek of the final season looks like there will be more loving reunions than wild twists and turns, but surely they'll pull out all the stops.

"All of us on Nashville are so incredibly grateful to the show's fans, who convinced CMT to give us a chance to keep telling the story of these remarkable characters", said executive producer Marshall Herskovitz in a press release. Comedy series "Still the King", starring Billy Ray Cyrus, has been canceled after two seasons.

It's almost time for Nashville's final encore, as the show will soon depart the stage for the very last time. The cabler is still home to syndicated repeats including Last Man Standing, Reba, Roseanne, Raising Hope and new arrival Mom.

Quiz: Who is Your TV Boss? . Music City can mean so many things to different people. Is there some other partner that we want to think about for CMT strategically? Despite being a hit for the network, the reason for the show's cancellation seems to be that CMT wants to move away from scripted programming, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter. A&E exited after Bates Motel wrapped its run; WGN America - which following its acquisition by Sinclair is home to low-priced imports; and Viacom's VH1, which saw its remaining scripted shows move to BET. CMT revived it for a fifth season, then picked up a shorter sixth year (16 episodes vs. 22 for Season 5) in April.
