NFL Commissioner Asking For $50-Million Dollar Salary

NFL Commissioner Asking For $50-Million Dollar Salary

There has been no word on what the compensation package being offered by league owners includes.

It's not too surprising, though, considering Jones and Blank are at odds over commissioner Roger Goodell's contract extension.

National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell is asking for a raise to the tune of almost $50 million per year, a lifetime use of a private jet, as well as lifetime health insurance for himself and his family, according to ESPN. Players protesting during the national anthem have led to a downturn in viewership across the league. An issue that some owners have with this is a few don't even make $40 million annually, when you factor out the overall value of the team they own.

The NFL's Compensation Committee will discuss the proposed contract extension Commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday, according to ESPN, and it appears as if the Goodell is asking for a big raise. While Goodell has certainly done that, he is not well received by many involved in football.

The committee will discuss a compensation package for Goodell who now makes around $30 million per year. However, NFL spokesperson Joe Lockhart denies that that is all Goodell asked for. "It's offensive. It's unseemly". It's a sentiment that Jones does not share, still feeling Goodell would go from wildly overpaid to merely very overpaid.

This was also the same call where Texans owner Bob McNair referred to the protesting players as "inmates", which resulted in heavy backlash.

"Jerry was fully on board with this right up until the suspension came down", one ownership source said. It doesn't seem that Goodell is going to walk away willingly either. A federal judge ruled that Goodell was allowed to suspend the aforementioned GOAT, Tom Brady, because the commissioner's contract allowed him what equates to limitless power.

"I'm willing to bet on myself", Goodell said in a months-ago meeting with the committee, willing to forfeit much of the money that his current deal now guarantees in lieu of earning the bonuses.
