Oscar De La Hoya training in secret, calls out Conor McGregor

Boxing since the age of 12, Dublin-born Conor McGregor has gone from a plumbing apprenticeship and a life on benefits to being the current UFC Featherweight Champion and the biggest fight sports star in the world.

Speaking to Dash Radio, De La Hoya - who won an Olympic gold medal for the U.S. at Barcelona 1992 - said: "You know I'm competitive, you know I still have it in me".

"I'm faster than ever".

Follow one of sport's most unforgettable journeys as the unflinching and brutally honest documentary, Conor McGregor: Notorious, arrives on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Platforms Monday 20 November. I'll come back for that.

And De La Hoya, who won 39 fights out of 45 including 30 knockouts in his career, has boldly claimed he could defeat reigning UFC Lightweight Champion McGregor in just two rounds. "Two rounds, that's all I need", he said.

The UFC have yet to issue a statement on McGregor's behaviour, which has been widely condemned by the mixed martial arts world.

"Mr Redmond was knocked - I don't want to say he was unconscious - but he was hit quite heavy".

The head of the Golden Boy promotion called out McGregor yesterday during an interview on the newly launched show, "Golden Boy Radio With Tattoo and the Crew". You heard it on Golden Boy Radio.

However, it should be noted that De La Hoya was actually one of the loudest critics when the Mayweather Vs McGregor fight was first announced, declaring it to be a dark day for the sport of boxing.

De La Hoya retired from boxing in 2009 after losing a fight to Manny Pacquaio the previous year. Mayweather defeated McGregor by TKO in the 10th round in a record-breaking pay-per-view.

We've seen McGregor accused of making racially insensitive remarks, we've seen him repeatedly use a homophobic slur when referring to a teammate's opponent and, most recently, we've seen him allow his emotion get the better of him in the Bellator cage. In a bout that nearly surely would draw considerably less?
