Palestinian shot dead by Israeli settlers in Nablus

Palestinian shot dead by Israeli settlers in Nablus

A United Nations agency that monitors incidents said earlier this year that an increase in settler violence had occurred alongside a major rise in Palestinian attacks against Israelis, the vast majority of which involved stone-throwing at vehicles. Two Israelis were lightly injured.

The Israeli military said troops arrived at the scene after the shooting to disperse the clash.

The injured Palestinian died on the scene while being treated by Israeli medical services, the army said.

Israeli settlers are known for their violence against the native Palestinian population - not even sparing children from their aggression.

In a statement, Palestinian official in charge of the settlement file in the northern West Bank Ghassan Daghlas said that Israeli settlers stormed lands of Palestinian citizens in Qusra village and shot the 48- year Palestinian man in his chest. One the adults accompanying the youths opened fire and killed a Palestinian man. When Mr Odeh refused, one of them shot him, Mr Daghlas added.

According to Almanam, "Mahmoud Zael Oudeh left [to go to his] plot of land, which is located several kilometers away from Esh Kodesh. Such a man and his wife could not attack a group of fifteen settlers".

In October, a seven-year-old Palestinian girl was hospitalised after settlers threw stones at her family's vehicle in the occupied city.

It was not immediately clear if the Israelis coordinated their hike with the military, as is normally required in the West Bank. They were surrounded and beaten by dozens of Palestinians.

Palestinian farmers are often targets of Israeli settler aggression, with them commonly attacking Palestinians tending their land.

Since September 2015, Palestinian assailants have killed more than 50 Israelis, two visiting Americans and a British tourist in stabbings, shootings and car-ramming attacks. The settlements are considered illegal under worldwide law, though Israel disputes this. The attacks during this time period have led to the deaths of three Palestinians.

The frequency and intensity of attacks has lessened in the past year.
