Panun Kashmir leaders meet Interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma at Jammu

The interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma on the second leg of his maiden five-day visit to State held deliberations with the stakeholders in Jammu, the winter capital of the State, where Governor N N Vohra impressed on him to sustain the dialogue and hear the elements of the society, who apparently held contrary convictions.

On the issue of Rohingya Muslims, he said they were agitating for deportation of the community members as "they could be a threat to the national security".

Sharma said his meetings with people were "very good".

The delegation of the BAJ, led by its president B S Slathia, alleged that refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh were being funded by some Kashmir-centric terror organisations and their influx of refugees had led to demographic changes in the region.

Separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik have refused to talk to him, calling Sharma's appointment "a new tactic" by New Delhi after it "failed in its muscular approach" in the troubled state.

Lt Gen Ds Hooda (Retd) in an article for an online news wire described why Hurriyat ruled out any talks with the Delhi-appointed interlocutor: "In principle, the pro-freedom leadership has always advocated and supported honest and productive dialogue as a means of conflict resolution over Jammu and Kashmir", Hooda wrote.

He supported the cause of the West Pakistan refugees and said a township should be created so that basic facilities could be provided to them.

"It is our demand that the government put in place (a mechanism) which regularly engages the community in dialogue to work out the agreed principles on return", read a memorandum submitted by the Pandit delegation.

Panun Kashmir strongly resents the disrespectful manner in which the state government invited Dr Agnishekhar and Dr Ajay Chrungoo to talk to the newly appointed representative of GoI Sh.

The delegations of Jammu-based parties, Bar Association of Jammu (BAJ) and West Pakistan Refugees, NGOs and youth also met Sharma and apprised him of their issues and concerns.

They also demanded creation of Gujjar Regiment in Indian army.
