PBS Special Honoring Letterman Cuts Franken's Appearance

Senators dig into election security Feinstein: Sessions should re-testify on Russian Federation meetings MORE's tribute to David Letterman at a prestigious awards show will be left on the cutting room floor.

Photos of Franken attending last month's event with family members remain on the Kennedy Center's website.

The Minnesota Democrat filmed the PBS special "David Letterman: The Mark Twin Prize", which was scheduled to air Monday, but the network edited him out, TV Line reported on Sunday.

Amid the growing controversy surrounding Minnesota Senator Al Franken, PBS is taking steps to remove him from an upcoming broadcast.

KABC journalist Leeann Tweeden published an essay last week in which she accused Franken of forcefully kissing her without her consent during rehearsal for a skit on a USO tour in 2006.

At the October ceremony, Franken appeared onstage to recognize Letterman's career as CBS's longtime late-night funnyman. After Leeann released the photo, Al apologized and supported the Senate's ethics investigation into his actions which offended many.

This despite the fact Letterman had his own scandal - back in 2009 when he told of his blackmail scare, confessing "I have had sex with women who work on this show".

"PBS and WETA, the producing station, felt that the inclusion of Senator Franken in the broadcast at this time would distract from the show's goal as a celebration of American humor", a PBS spokesperson told Variety in a statement Monday.
