Ranveer Singh on 'Padmavati' row: I've been asked not to say anything!

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday said his government will block the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati in the state, adding "we can't allow our history to be distorted".

"If historical facts are distorted, and if anything is shown or said in the movie against the respect of the country's mother, Padmavatiji', then that movie can not be allowed for release in Madhya Pradesh", Chouhan said while addressing members of the Rajput community here at his residence.

Chouhan's remarks came soon after he met a delegation of Rajput community members, who had gone to meet him demanding ban on the release of the movie in the state.

In Previous days, BJP media coordinator Suraj Pal Amu from Haryana offered Rs 10 crore to those who kill Deepika Padukon and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. While MP chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has said the film won't be screened in his state, the Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje said on Monday that until suggestions given in her November 18 letter to Union I&B minister Smriti Irani are implemented, Padmavati will not be screened in Rajasthan.

Rajput Karni Sena accuse the film's makers of distorting historical facts, but historians say the queen is a mythical character and there is no clear evidence that she even existed. The film is embroiled controversy as some fringe groups are protesting against its release nationwide. Padmavati features Deepika in titular role Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharwal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji.

The film was scheduled to be released in theatres across India last Friday, but the release was deferred after the Indian Central Board of Film Certification, popularly called the censor board, withheld the movie's clearance claiming its paperwork was incomplete.
