Sir Bradley Wiggins to make competitive rowing debut at British Indoor Championships

Sir Bradley Wiggins to make competitive rowing debut at British Indoor Championships

"I might be being a bit delusional but the times suggest I'm not", said Wiggins, who is being coached by friend and Olympic rowing gold medallist James Cracknell, at a corporate event in Manchester in June.

Retired cycling champion Bradley Wiggins is to turn his sights on a new sporting challenge when he competes in next month's British Rowing Indoor Championships in London.

A five-time Olympic champion on the bike, you'd be excused for expecting Sir Bradley Wiggins to be putting his feet up post-retirement.

The 37-year-old former Tour de France victor and five-times Olympic cycling gold medallist will take part in the rowing machine race over 2,000 metres on 9 December at London's Olympic velodrome, where he set a one-hour cycling world record.

Wiggins has swapped pedals for oars this year, and said in the summer that he has not ruled out attempting to join the GB rowing squad for the 2020 Olympic Games and go for a sixth gold medal.

The British Rowing Indoor Championships is open to anyone, and competitors from across the United Kingdom range from 11 to 88 years of age. "On a personal level, I'm a massive cycling fan and he's probably a large reason for that", said World Championship bronze medallist Rossiter.

The decision to investigate came soon after Russian hackers the Fancy Bears revealed that Wiggins had medical exemptions to use triamcinolone before the 2011 and 2012 Tours de France and 2013 Giro d'Italia.

UKAD said it could not determine what was in a mystery package delivered to Wiggins during a race in 2011, and that they would bring no charges.

The news comes just days after UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) ended its investigation into allegations of wrongdoing at British Cycling and Team Sky, of which Wiggins was a central member.
