Sorry, Ben Affleck, Jake Gyllenhaal Is The Batman We Deserve

Sorry, Ben Affleck, Jake Gyllenhaal Is The Batman We Deserve

Actor Ben Affleck who starred as Batman in DC's Extended Universe is soon to be replaced by "Brokeback Mountain" actor Jake Gyllenhaal in the next Batman movie if media reports are to be believed.

In the most recent episode of film pundit John Campea's YouTube show, he mentioned that Ben Affleck retiring as Batman has been a "foregone conclusion" since the beginning of the year. It also states other actors being brought in was a move done a couple of weeks ago to apply pressure to Affleck, but now it's nearly certain he will not be returning for the role. "I think there is a chance to do an nearly noir-driven detective version of Batman that is the point of view driven in a very, very powerful way". According to Campea, Jake Gyllenhaal's the guy that was on the top of the list, especially for The Batman director Matt Reeves. His name has been supposedly floated as a candidate, but there's no guarantee that he'll sign on or that Warner Bros would pick him.

Affleck returns in Justice League this weekend, but his future in the DCEU remains unclear. Chris O'Donnell eventually portrayed Dick Grayson alongside Val Kilmer in Batman Forever, and returned opposite George Clooney in Batman & Robin. His sister Maggie Gyllenhaal later appeared in its sequel, The Dark Knight.

Gyllenhaal has met with director Mark Reeves, who is attached to direct a Batman solo. Nevertheless, if there's official word on Affleck leaving Batman behind, we'll be sure to let you know.

Affleck's exit was reportedly decided upon back in February but was being held back for public relations purposes in the run-up to "Justice League's" release this week.

I have personally yet to see Justice League (but plan too soon, now that it's out this weekend), but based on Batman v Superman: The Dawn of Justice, I would say that one of the positive things DC has going for it is Ben Affleck as Batman.
