Texas A&M will fire Kevin Sumlin after LSU game, report says

The 53-year-old Sumlin is 51-25 in six seasons with the Aggies, including 7-4 this year.

According to the Houston Chronicle, no matter what happens against number 18 LSU on Saturday night, Sumlin will be fired.

Per Zwerneman's report, Sumlin will be let go on Sunday or in the days following the Aggies' regular season finale against the Tigers. "I haven't heard that". Texas A&M now sits 7-4, meaning the 8-5 plateau was within reach, but if the report is to be believed, boosters must have made a decision to aim higher.

Quarterback Johnny Manziel led the Aggies to a victory over Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl that season, which was the first of three consecutive bowl victories for A&M under the leadership of Sumlin. Sumlin has two years remaining on his contract that pays $5 million annually, and the two sides are expected to negotiate a buyout in the range of $10 million.

The biggest stat against Sumlin, the Aggies are just 16 and 19 against SEC West competition since he arrived in 2012. Its last national title was all the way back in 1939.
