The Miami Heat Have Broken The Celtics Insane Winning Streak

Celtics head coach Brad Stevens said Boston's winning streak would not continue if they did not get better.

Notes: Celtics coach Brad Stevens limited Marcus Morris' minutes against Miami because of knee stiffness. "Our techniques haven't been great the last couple games".

- Goran Dragic scored 27 points as the Miami Heat defeated the Boston Celtics 104-98, snapping the Celtics' 16-game winning streak Wednesday night.

The Celtics (16-3) suffered their first loss since the second game of the season against Milwaukee (108-100), and their first road defeat since a 102-99 season-opening loss at Cleveland.

While Jaylen Brown, Boston's unsung hero this season, tallied 14 points, rookie Jayson Tatum finished with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. That was a costly miss, considering the Dion Waiters trey that followed.

The Celtics cut a 16-point deficit to 66-58 on Smart's jumper with 4:09 remaining in the third quarter.

But when it mattered most, Boston made way too many mistakes and didn't capitalize on the opportunities to put serious pressure on the Heat.

But despite a 13-0 run midway through the fourth that got them within a single point with 3:14 to go, the Celtics couldn't get over the hump to overcome a frustrating offensive effort in which they shot just 41.7 percent from the floor as a team, or an uncharacteristically iffy defensive performance in which they allowed the Heat to shoot 49.4 percent from the floor, with Dragic and the inimitable Waiters leading the way.

Trailing 91-89, Marcus Smart split a pair of free throws.

Irving scored and Waiters missed, but Brown threw an outlet pass over Horford and out of bounds after grabbing the rebound.

Miami snapped an eight-game losing streak against the Celtics.

Behind Dragic's 20 points, the Heat built a 17-point lead in the first half.

Miami was up by 18 points at one stage during the game, but that lead was nearly cut to nothing late in the fourth.

Boston's run was stopped at 16 consecutive wins as the Heat brought the Celtics back down to earth following a memorable unbeaten sequence.
