There's A New Harry Potter Games Coming To Consoles

"Ingress" was the first augmented reality game released by Niantic in 2012, though it was not as warmly welcomed by players as "Pokemon Go", which still attracts players to this day.

Pokemon Go reportedly had about 45 million daily players at its peak and generated more than $1.2bn (£915m) in sales. In an interview with BBC, IHS Markit consultancy's Piers Harding-Rolls believes that the upcoming "Harry Potter" game was promising and would be an apt "follow-up" to "Pokemon Go".

Harry Potter fans will soon get a chance to explore the Wizarding World in real life with a new mobile game from Pokemon Go creators Niantic.

Publisher Warner Bros Interactive owns the video game rights to the Harry Potter series. The games will vary from mobile to console games, and will feature both new characters and - excitingly - could feature familiar characters "at different points in their lives" from the Harry Potter stories. Interactive Entertainment, David Haddad, said. But it was only after it took on an established brand that it caught the wider public's attention. Additionally, there was a Quidditch-themed game called Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup.

In Wizards Unite, players will learn spells while exploring real-world locations, encounter legendary beasts and team up with other players to fight powerful enemies.

There have been many Harry Potter console games over the years, but none recently.

The title is likely to take advantage of enhanced augmented reality features provided by Apple and Google via their ARKit and ARCore developer tools, which were not available when Pokemon Go launched.

While Harry Potter fans were thrilled about this week's surprise announcement, many Pokemon Go fans were a little less enthusiastic.

Niantic didn't reveal exactly what new features will be coming to Pokemon GO in 2018, but many fans are hoping that next year will finally bring long-requested features like Pokemon trading and PvP battles to the game.

"But I still don't think they will be essential to the experience".
