Won't allow screening of 'Padmavati' in Karnataka: Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena

The Karni Sena members can be seen in the video smashing glass counters and windows of Aakash theatre where Padmavati trailer was being played. The police have arrested eight people for the incident.

They also shouted slogans against Bhansali.

No case has been registered in connection with the violence. A few Karni Sena activists had submitted a memorandum to the theatre manager demanding him stop the screening of the trailer.

Following the protest, the screening of the teaser has been stopped at the theatre, the police officer said. But the makers of Padmavati said that they can do that only after it is granted a certificate by the censor board.

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the movie found itself in the line of fire for its rumoured distortion of historical facts.

The film, which stars Deepika Padukone as Padmavati, has triggered a massive controversy with various Rajput groups, including the Karni Sena, threatening to disrupt the screening of the movie, accusing Bhansali of "distorting" historical facts.

On the other side, the director has been claiming that there is no such scene that would hurt anyone's sentiments.

" The film starring Deepika Padukone as Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khalji, is based on the legend of Rajput queen Padmavati".

The outrage over Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Padmavati intensified on Tuesday with not only Rajputs but Brahmins, Vaishyas, OBCs and Muslim communities rallying together to oppose the film for insulting Hindus and warning of violence if it is released.

There are around 300 screens in Rajasthan and it will be a loss of around Rs 5 crore if the film is not released in the state, sources said. What have we gotten ourselves into? "The film Padmavati is anti-Hindu and anti-national. Nation can progress only when it is regression from her perspective", Swamy tweeted.
