17-year-old left bloodied after encounter with Alabama police

Officers, who have yet to be officially identified, approached Wilkerson around 11:52 p.m. Saturday as he walked behind a closed business. When they tried to speak to him, he ran off, prompting a foot chase. Police say that the teenager refused to comply with their orders and reached behind his back as if to retrieve a weapon.

The town's police chief has requested an investigation into his officers' use of force. In a statement, the AIB said that officers believed that the teen was about to break into a store before the arrest, but they have yet to reveal any evidence to support that claim. "The force used was reasonable and necessary", police said.

Police said a handgun was found in the path from which Wilkerson ran. His parents are now demanding answers.

The incident is being reviewed by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), which sent officials to interview members of the Troy Police Department this week.

The Troy Police Department has asked the State Bureau of Investigation to investigate after officers arrested a 17-year-old using physical force. He was later transported to University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham before being released a day later.

Troy Police Chief Randall Barr handed the investigation over to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Anderson hasn't spoken with police or the mayor about releasing the video, and Ulysses' parents have not requested to meet with him, he said.

Lt. Heath Carpenter told BuzzFeed that the investigation is still "open and active", but couldn't confirm whether the police department had placed any officers involved on leave. One eye is swollen completely shut and his nose and lips are caked with dried blood.

The boy's mother Angela Williams posted a bloodied image of Ulysses Wilkerson after his encounter with Troy police officers on December 23. In fact, little is actually known as to what actually happened. She added: "Please share this".

The teen was arrested in Troy, Alabama on Christmas Eve. Her post has been shared 80,000 times, with many expressing outrage over his condition.

Troy police said excessive force was used after the boy, Ulysses Wilkerson, resisted arrest, according to local TV station WSFA.

The family told WDHN News 18 in Dothan that Ulysses suffered swelling to the brain and his eye socket was cracked in three places.

Troy police have not yet identified the teen, but people identifying as the teen's family and friends have posted photos of Wilkerson and information consistent with the details of the encounter with officers.

The statement from Crump and Fowler continued, "The family is adamant about the community staying engaged to help seek for justice for their 17-year-old son". "This is not just a matter of black and white, it is a matter of humanity". I hope that they body camera was on and they haven't told me shit yet.

Some of the officers involved in Ulysses' arrest were not wearing body cameras, and one officer was wearing one but did not turn on the device, Anderson said.
