ABC Cans Mario Batali After Sexual Misconduct Investigation

Celebrity chef Mario Batali has officially been canned from ABC culinary show The Chew.

The ABC spokesperson added that while it did not receive any reports regarding inappropriate behavior involving him or anyone affiliated with the Emmy-winning talk show, they stated that Batali's past behavior violated the company's conduct standards.

Without Batali, "The Chew", at present, is now hosted by Carla Hall, Cinton Kelly and Michael Symon, who have been on the show alongside Batali since its launch in 2011, along with Daphne Oz, who departed on her own terms ahead of the current seventh season. Another former employee claims Batali would repeatedly grab her from behind and held her tightly against his body, while another alleged that he groped her and that, in a separate incident, he made her straddle him. On Friday evening, Batali - or someone on his team - sent out an additional apology in the chef's newsletter.

ABC has parted ways with celebrity chef Mario Batali, who will no longer be part of the network's daytime show "The Chew" following allegations of sexual misconduct. Employees who had bad encounters with the former co-host of The Chew nicknamed him "The Red Menace". Batali reportedly underwent training from the company. The network "takes matters like this very seriously", it said in a statement. "We have strong policies that address sexual harassment".

In one incident, a female chef in her 20s recalled meeting Batali at a restaurant in New Orleans, describing the famed chef as "creepy". The products include olive oil, sauces, pasta, and cookbooks. It also shelved the series' remaining episodes.

Batali has hosted The Chew for seven seasons and his exit comes after original co-host Daphne Oz left after the sixth season. Since the allegations against Batali were published on Monday, Hall, Kelly and Symon have been filming as a trio. The network has not announced if they are going to replace Batali.
