Apple Reveals 'Best of 2017' Apps, Books, Games, Movies, and TV Shows

Not many days are left in 2017.

Super Mario Run has been named the most popular free game of the year on Apple's App Store. Affinity Photo is also a paid-up front app although Calm is free with an optional subscription.

On iPad the app of the year is Affinity Photo - a feature-packed photo editing tool, while the iPad game of the year is The Witness, which sees you navigate an open world, solving puzzles. On the other hand, Pritam's "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil", from the movie of the same title that was released last year, topped the tag of album of the year.

On Apple's annual list of the most downloaded free iTunes apps of the year, the Bitmoji app, owned by Snap, bagged the top spot.

But you're unlikely to guess the names of the 2017 iPhone and iPad App of the Year award recipients without cheating.

Apple also highlighted four breakout trends in app culture for 2017: the wider introduction of augmented reality in apps and games, the rise of real-time competitive gaming on mobile devices, apps focused on mental health awareness and bettering, and apps transforming storytelling and reading.

Apart from the leaders, the list of 10 most popular apps of 2017 in India includes WhatsApp Messenger, YouTube, Facebook, Paytm, Messenger, SHAREit, Instagram, Google Maps, Uber, and Hotstar. Pandora, a music streaming service, also dashed out of the top ten, but was able to get a place among the top fifteen apps. Taylor Swift's album "reputation" has already shot up to #3 on the 2017 United States top album charts, despite having only been available for a short period of time.

Splitter Critters is the iPhone game of the year.

There's some predictable overlap between the two tech titans' lists of 2017 top sellers, as Game of Thrones, for instance, dominates both Apple and Google's latest yearly TV show charts.

For movies, the top film was Moana followed by the Stars Was instalment Rogue One.
