Apple to Release LCD iPhone With Metal Back Next Year?

Apple to Release LCD iPhone With Metal Back Next Year?

Looks like Apple is not yet ready to bid farewell to LCD. Kuo also suggests that this model will feature a 6.1-inch TFT LCD screen. This is in spite of Apple's decision to move forward with OLED screens for its flagship handsets.

Apple is not expected to update its iPhone X lineup until late 2018. A new report from Nikkei this evening offers more color on that device, saying it will feature a metal back similar to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus...

"The 6.1-inch LCD model will likely sport a metal back [like older iPhone handsets] that will come in several colors", said the source, adding that the two OLED handsets will come in two sizes: one either 6.2 or 6.3 inches long, and the other 5.8 inches.

The same source revealed that Pegatron subsidiary Casetek could become the supplier of the metal backs for the 6.1-inch iPhone units. Another source claimed that Casetek has already been trying out new casings for the LCD.

Apple launched three new models this year, with iPhone X being its first model to adopt an OLED display. Foxconn has monopolized iPhone X orders this year, while Pegatron makes the iPhone 8.

Nikkie also told that new iPhone will be assembled by a new manufacturer.

That's the word from a new report on Business Insider, citing supply chain sources, backing up claims made by analyst Ming Chi Kuo last month.

The most interesting development, though, centres on the LCD-packing iPhone X model.

According to Nomura, the LCD iPhone arriving in 2018 will sport the same edge-to-edge design like the iPhone X. It will be featuring only a single camera on its rear panel. The phone will come alongside another OLED phone which will be the "Plus" model of the 5.8-inch iPhone. It would be a shocker if the tech giant confirmed or denied any of the rumored specs or features of the 2018 lineup at this point.
