'Atiku return to PDP an indication that APC has failed to deliver …'

In a move that certainly will not please former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party has placed a ban on the campaign for its presidential ticket by its would-be presidential aspirants during the party's December 9, 2017, convention.

Prof Aloysius Okolie, Senior Lecturer and former head of department, Political Science, University of Nigeria Nsukka told Vanguard in Nsukka that Atiku's return to PDP was a big blow to the ruling party All Progressive Congress (APC) as many of his supporters would follow him to PDP.

Meanwhile, a group, Arewa PDP Pathfinders, yesterday backed the demand of Northern Elders and Leaders Forum (NELF) for the Southwest to produce the next national chairman of the party. "Atiku never asked; we conceded nothing to him and we never gave him anything". "The party will provide a level playing field for everybody to exercise their right to give their mandate to whoever they want to give it to".

Makarfi equally expressed satisfaction with last Tuesday's judgment of the Court of Appeal in Ekiti State which nullified the judgment of the lower court on the authentic leadership of the South-west zone, adding that it could have affected the smooth conduct of Saturday's convention.

Ahmed Makarfi and a host of other party officials.

Makarfi urged all contestants contesting for various offices at the convention to continue to go about their campaign with decorum.

"We need to make this announcement to all our party members and well-wishers that the convention is going to be for delegates and we are expecting a little less than 3,000".

He also said that the issues that had forced him to defect to the APC about four years ago had been resolved in the PDP.

The chairman of the PDP Convention Planning Committee, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, warned 2019 presidential aspirants and their agents against displaying their posters at the convention.

Speaking with Daily Trust in Abuja, Ojo, who is also a security expert, said he would campaign for the Wazirin Adamawa if he came out to run for president.

Majority of the people TVC News spoke to described Atiku as a desperate politician who has come to the end of his career.

"I will not expect any aspirant, especially presidential aspirants to bring their campaign posters, campaigners, men or women to the venue because it will not be allowed".

"For those who want to campaign for future election, possibly the presidential aspirants, this convention is not the place to display campaign posters or to display their intentions".

"I believe there will be an appropriate convention for that". What we want are people who can help us win elections and Atiku is one of them.
