Canadian woman shell-shocked after finding lobster with Pepsi logo 'tattooed' to claw

Canadian woman shell-shocked after finding lobster with Pepsi logo 'tattooed' to claw

A lobster has been found off Canada's New Brunswick with what appears to be a Pepsi logo imprinted on its claw.

Lindstrand is a big Pepsi fan and told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation she drinks up to 12 cans a day, so she knew exactly what the image on the claw was.

"I was like: 'Oh, that's a Pepsi can, '" she said. Whether the imprint came from an actual can of Pepsi or from an image of a can on a case or other item remains unclear.

The lobster is now believed to be in United States after Karissa put it in a crate for transport to a buyer. She points out that the image on the claw was pixelated, suggesting it could not have come from a can, while the image on a Pepsi box is far too large to be what she saw on the claw.

The incident revived concerns over the amount of debris littering the world's oceans. According to some estimates, in the sea annually gets from 5 to 13 million tons of plastic waste, a significant part of which becomes an unwitting food for birds, fish and other ocean organisms.

Recently, researchers documented almost 38m pieces of plastic - weighing almost 18 tonnes - that had washed up in one of the world's most remote places: an uninhabited coral atoll in the eastern South Pacific.

Recently, researchers detected almost 30m pieces of plastic weighing almost 18 tons piling up on an uninhabited Henderson Island in the eastern South Pacific. Scientists found hundreds of crabs scuttling about in makeshift homes made of bottle caps and cosmetic jars, with one crab even converting the inside of a doll's head into a home.

Earlier in August, a gorgeous giant lobster was caught by a fisherman in Fuding, southeastern China's Fujian province. A similar lobster was captured more than two years ago in Wenling, Zhejiang province, and later sold for 600,000 RMB.
