Daredevil falls to his death while trying to do pull-ups on skyscraper

Police said Wu Yongning fell to his death from the 62-storey Huayuan Hua Centre, one of the tallest buildings in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province, on November 8.

Wu posted his last video to Weibo on Nov 8, a 30sec clip showing him do pull-ups from the edge of a high-rise building.

Wu's death was ruled an accident by local authorities.

The stuntman's death was confirmed December 8 after fans of his escapades noticed Wu hadn't posted new videos on social media in a month. The building Wu fell from is actually only open to the public up to the 44th floor before key cards are needed to access the Grand Hyatt hotel, Wu's girlfriend, who goes by Jin Jin, told Beijing News.

Jin Jin added he was going to ask her parents for permission to marry her a couple of days after he climbed the building and he would have gifted them 80,000 yuan (£9,000), which is the amount he would have probably received for making the viral video.

Within 10 months, he had scaled various skyscrapers around China and performed stunts on top of them.

"He planned to propose to his girlfriend [the day after the challenge]", the South China Morning Post quoted his step-uncle as saying.

He had hoped to use the money to marry his girlfriend and pay his mother's medical expenses.

"Rooftopping" or climbing extremely tall city buildings without safety equipment - has become increasingly popular across the world in recent years. With more than a million followers, Wu regularly featured in advertisements on social media and live-streaming platforms.
