Disney Resorts Remove 'Do Not Disturb' Signs After Las Vegas Shooting

The sign accompanies another new policy that requires Disney employees to enter each hotel room at least once a day to ensure "the safety and security of guests and property", Walt Disney World News Today reports.

The Walt Disney Company is changing employees' hotel-room entry protocol at some of its properties at Orlando's Walt Disney World Resort, according to the non-Disney-affiliated WDW News Today news blog.

The updated policy now applies to monorail-accessible resorts, including the Grand Floridian, the Contemporary, and the Polynesian.

Those signs have been replaced with a "Room Occupied" sign, which will not prevent staff from entering a room. Now these new security measures only affect four properties, but Disney is considering introducing the "Room Occupied" signs to its other resorts in the future.

Guests staying at one of the three monorail hotels - the Grand Floridian, Polynesian and Contemporary resorts - near the Magic Kingdom have already experienced the tighter security policies, which include the removal of the "Do Not Disturb" door sign. Guests there received a paper notice about the change.

Justin and Leslie Lamothe were in Central Florida on vacation from Arkansas and didn't think the new policy was good for Disney's customers. Cast members will knock and announce themselves before entering the room. Disney did not offer an explanation for the changes.

The new security procedures come just four months after a man checked into a Las Vegas hotel with several suitcases full of weapons and shot and killed 58 people and injured hundreds more from his room.

Rosa Crespo is visiting from NY and says in light of the deadly shooting that happened in Las Vegas, any extra security measures are welcomed by her.

Representatives at Walt Disney Co. didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Travel Weekly.
