Eating Small Bits Of Cheese Daily Helps Lower Heart Disease Risks

Thus, good news for all: Eating a small amount of the cheese every day could be good for your heart, according to researchers from Soochow University in China.

Dutch and Chinese researchers teamed up to analyze data from 15 prior studies, tracking over 200,000 participants for at least 10 years.

Cheese, like other dairy products, contains high levels of saturated fat-which has been linked to high cholesterol, atherosclerosis and an increased risk of heart disease.

The study, published in the European Journal of Nutrition this month, says people who ate around 40 grams of cheese per day - a serving about the size of a matchbox - saw the greatest reduction in risk of cardiovascular disease.

Although many people look at cheese as a sort of "cheat food" due to its high fat content, a new research review suggests that it might not actually be that bad for you. The Cheese particularly helps to prevent from cardiovascular diseases, the study further clarified.

In fact, researchers cited a recent randomized controlled trial of 153 participants that ate high-fat cheese regularly for eight weeks did not increase their total cholesterol or LDL-C levels, but reduced triglycerides among subjects.

While cheese has gotten a bad rap, it has important nutrients including protein, calcium and probiotics, said the study. It could be that people who eat cheese on a daily basis are healthier overall, or have more disposable income and higher socioeconomic statuses.

Sophie Clarke, of the British Cheese Board, said, "Far from having a negative effect, a number of large studies have shown dairy products to have a protective effect on factors relating to heart health". With the average American consuming 42.5 grams of food each day, you may find yourself eating less cheese if you want the maximum benefits. "It's promising to find that something that actually tastes good-and pairs well with a nice glass of red wine-may offer some protection, as well".
