Facebook reveals Most-Talked About Moment of 2017

There's no doubt that 2017 was a roller coaster of a year, and Facebook says its users generated the most chatter about International Women's Day, Super Bowl 51 and the Las Vegas mass shooting while also coming together to give back in times of crisis.

Additionally, Facebook ranked the top three moments in which people came together to support one another in times of crisis and need. The game between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons, which featured Lady Gaga performing at half-time, saw 262 million views of Super Bowl-related videos. And, unsurprisingly, a lot of them are pretty depressing, confirming what we all already knew: The year 2017 was pretty awful.

Las Vegas Violence: This tragic incident drove conversation around the world, which in turn motivated more than 3,300 people to offer help to their community through our Crisis Response tools on Facebook.

The massive September quake in Mexico drove the highest number of total interactions within Crisis Response on Facebook of the year, with millions of users to mark themselves safe, offer aid, or donate money to relief efforts on Facebook.

This was the largest fundraising event for a single crisis in 2017 while the One Love Manchester benefit concert following the Manchester Attack during an Ariana Grande concert raised more than $450,000 to those affected by the tragedy.

The total solar eclipse in August brought the world together through more than 20,000 Facebook Events in more than 80 countries.

Finally, people used Facebook to get together in person.

The concert was the most viewed video and live broadcast on Facebook for the year with over 80 million video views.

Similar to the Women's Day engagement, the Women's March on D.C. on January 21 proved to be the largest Facebook event for a single cause in 2017. Starting Wednesday, you may see a personalised video in your News Feed.

Yesterday, Facebook unveiled its annual Year in Review, which highlights the biggest moments of 2017.

It's worth noting that unlike previous Year in Review rankings, this year's rankings didn't consider the cumulative discussion of topics over the whole year, but rather those most talked about on a single day.

This also means that even though "Mother's Day" or "Valentine's Day" might be topics heavily talked about on a single day, they didn't make Facebook's top rankings of the most discussed moments because they weren't talked about much more this year compared to last year.
