Federation Internationale de Football Association lift Kuwait global ban

Federation Internationale de Football Association lift Kuwait global ban

"The suspension of the Kuwait Football Association is lifted", FIFA's president Gianni Infantino announced alongside a Kuwaiti official in a video shared on Twitter.

The Bureau of the FIFA Council lifted the suspension of the Kuwait Football Association on December 6 as a result. FIFA President Gianni Infantino is now in Kuwait to ensure the new law is in place.

It was only in 2015 when FIFA chose to ban Kuwait from regional, continental and worldwide football when the government was interfering in the work of the football associations present in the country. This government interference has also led to an International Olympic Committee suspension of the country.

The FIFA ban has been lifted in time for Kuwaiti footballers to compete in this month's Gulf Cup of Nations which will be held in Qatar.

On Sunday, the Kuwaiti parliament passed a new law in line with FIFA's requirements and on Tuesday, Kuwaiti clubs elected Ahmed al Yousef al Sabah as the head of a new football federation.

But FIFA chief Infantino flew to Kuwait yesterday to meet with officials before making the eagerly-awaited announcement in the afternoon, bringing the country back into the global football fold.

It may be added that the 23rd edition of the tournament was supposed to be hosted by Kuwait originally but moved to Qatar after Federation Internationale de Football Association made a decision to ban Kuwait.
