Fugitive Kentucky lawyer Eric Conn captured in Honduras

Honduran authorities have captured a fugitive USA lawyer who was on America's most wanted list.

Conn pleaded guilty in March to his role in a $550 million social security fraud scheme.

The FBI offered a reward of $20,000 for his capture.

In June, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky sentenced Conn in absentia to 12 years in prison, ordered him to pay nearly $170 million in restitution, a $50,000 fine and a forfeiture judgment of $5,750,404.

Conn is to be sent back to the US on Tuesday, the newspaper said. "Social Security." He fueled that persona with outlandish TV commercials and small-scale replicas of the Statue of Liberty and the Lincoln Memorial at his office in eastern Kentucky.

A Honduran newspaper is reporting that fugitive Kentucky attorney Eric C. Conn has been apprehended in the Central American nation.

Authorities had been tracking Conn for a couple of weeks, the newspaper says.

In an email exchange months ago with the Lexington Herald-Leader, a person claiming to be Conn said he fled the US using a fake passport.

USA officials had been tracking him for months, and Honduran police had been following him for weeks before his capture.

He paid doctors to write false medical evaluations and bribed a judge to rubber stamp applications, Associated Press reports. An indictment said that in late April Wyatt crossed the U.S. -Mexico border in Nogales, Arizona, and Columbus, New Mexico, to check security measures.

Meanwhile, one of Conn's former employees faces federal charges.

The FBI had been looking for Conn for about six months.

The indictment charged Wyatt with aiding in Conn's escape and abetting Conn's failure to appear.
