Google Adds 'Selfie-Style Videos' From Celebs to Search Results

Google Adds 'Selfie-Style Videos' From Celebs to Search Results

Thanks to this new "feature", Mr. Ferrell himself will now provide the answer via a selfie video, all within Google Search. Today, the search engine is going a step further by adding in-line video answers to certain questions.

"Whether you're wondering what Gina Rodriguez's pet peeve is, what movie changed Nick Jonas' life, or want Kenan Thompson's input on what makes something amusing, these self-recorded videos share their perspectives and answers to some of your most-asked questions", Product Manager Rami Banna explained in a blog post.

Questions like "How many languages does Priyanka Chopra speak?" or "Can Will Ferrell really play the drums?" now surface a video player as the top search result. Google is also considering expanding the feature to include lesser known celebrities in the coming months. The company has never figured out how to build a successful social platform of its own, having instead brought us creations like the overly-engineered Google+, and various social app failures, like group chat app Spaces. At the bottom, there is a carousel of cards that restates the question and can be swiped to see more answers from the same person.

Other celebrities who have recorded videos for the launch include Nick Jonas, Mark Wahlberg, James Franco, and Gina Rodriguez.

This isn't the first time Google has opened up its search results to celebrities.

Google's always testing out new features here and there for making its many services as great as can be, and the latest one has to do with its bread and butter, Google Search.

While Google has historically updated its search results to return answers and information beyond the world of text-based web pages, these celeb videos have a tinge of social envy to them, on Google's part.
