One man is dead and two others are in hospital after an industrial accident on Thursday left them trapped inside an ink Value-Added Tax at a manufacturing business in Sydney's west.

New South Ambulance superintendent Paul Turner said the worker had been trapped by his legs, describing the area as "a very hard scene".

Emergency services rushed to Chisholm Road in Auburn just before 8.45am after receiving reports three workers were trapped inside a tank.

Emergency services desperately tried to free the man when he went inside the tank to clean it and his legs became trapped by a blade.

Mr Turner said: "The third patient unfortunately died on scene, this is a awful tragedy".

New South Ambulance superintendent Paul Turner said the deceased man, aged in his thirties, had been trapped by his legs, describing the area as "a very hard scene".

"We did everything we could, this is a tragedy", he said. He has since been taken to Westmead Hospital with leg injuries.

The victim is believed to be aged in his 20s or 30s, and his body is still trapped in the six-metre battery shaped tank.

A complex rescue operation is now underway to free the other two men, believed to be seriously injured.

The two rescued men were taken to Westmead Hospital, with one man suffering suspected leg injuries and the other leg fractures.

Some of the rescuers were experts in working in confined spaces, he said.
