Mario Batali under fire amid sexual misconduct allegations

Batali took leave from his restaurants, as well as ABC's The Chew, to deal with the aftermath of the allegations.

"I apologize profoundly to the people I have mistreated and hurt".

Celebrity chef and part-time Northport resident Mario Batali is stepping aside from his business and hosting duties on a television show after accusations of sexual misconduct levied by employees in his restaurants. When Altarescu, who worked for Vanity Fair at the time, declined, she said Batali grabbed her sleeve and told her that she was "making a big mistake". On Monday, actress Siobhan Thompson told CBS This Morning about her experience as a former employee of his stating Batali grabbed her breasts. That behavior was horribly wrong, shameful and degrading and there are no excuses. It's not the only affected part of his career; Batali's longtime favorite shoe brand and former collaborator, Crocs, has confirmed that its partnership with the chef is resoundingly finished.

Batali allegedly mauled the woman in the restaurant's third-floor after-hours party spot, which workers call "the rape room", during a wild gathering in 2008. During his absence, it will not air reruns that feature him.

Cammie Bueler of Epicure Catering - which was featured in Batali's 2014 cookbook "America: Farm to Table" - said in a statement the news was "disheartening" but found words of support for her mentor. "I take full responsibility and am deeply sorry for any pain, humiliation or discomfort I have caused to my peers, employees, customers, friends and family".

The Food Network planned to relaunch "Molto Mario" next year, but said Monday that the show would be put on hold.

"He gets wasted, he's arrogant, and he acts like he's God's gift to women", the fourth woman said of Batali.

Silverton - co-owner of Osteria Mozza and Pizzeria Mozza in Los Angeles; Newport Beach, Calif.; and Singapore, and Mozza2Go and Chi Spacca in Los Angeles - said she agreed with Batali's decision to remove himself from operations at all the restaurants, noting that he did not deny the allegations.

"When I go in today to talk to the staff, I'm going to tell them that we will remain a harassment-free zone, that nothing will change", she said.

The Batali responded, "I think the reckoning is coming across the board".

In 2002, Batali was recognized by the prestigious James Beard Foundation as the best chef in New York City.

Just next store to the Tarry Lodge is the Tarry Market, which is also owned and operated by Batali.

The spokesman also said Batali volunteered not to visit the restaurant listed in the complaint.

Added Batali: "I have work to do to try to regain the trust of those I have hurt and disappointed".
